1986 Gr1 Computaform Sprint - finish2

Military Song looked a picture in the parade ring and, although as usual failing to stride out freely in the canter to the start, came back in fluent style.  Firm favourite at 17-10, Military Song shared the lead with Dolphin Ditty, Moccasin, Charming Harry and Forest Lad in the early stages.  Military Song and Dolphin Ditty had pulled ahead of the opposition at halfway and Payne's charge sealed the outcome as he forged clear of Dolphin Ditty racing into the last 200m.

David Payne, trainerPrince of Pride (10-1) came with a late rush to reduce Military Song's winning margin to a length.

The victory was Payne's fourth Computaform Sprint win in 5 years, following War Ribbon (1982), Smackeroo (1984) and Tucaman (1985). He was presented with a special award in recognition of this at the Gosforth Park annual dinner in March.
