Gerald Turner

Main Man was sent off at 6-10 to maintain his unbeaten record in the Gr1 SA Nursery Plate on soft going over 1200m at Turffontein and never gave the bookmakers one moment's cause for optimism.

Disputing the lead on the bridle in the early stages, the Jean Heming-trained colt asserted superiority 400m from home. Under a confident ride by Gerald Turner he went on to win by a three lengths from Lord de Grey, who held second place by half a length from fast-finishing Your Affair.

Although his victory was an impressive one, the form of this race did not work out very well as none of the horses closest behind him managed to win again in their next starts.

The victory netted Main Main's connections a cool R78.250 - R47 000 from the base stake, and another R31 250 from the TBA futurity fund.
