The R100 000 Gr1 South African Fillies Guineas at Scottsville promised to be a humdinger of a race, and that it certainly was.
Jungle Class, beaten only once in eight previous starts and fresh from her SA Fillies Sprint Gr2I victory, was an 18/10 favourite to continue in winning vein but the likes of Alpine Silk (SNL), Young Lady, Divine Forest and Cerulean Blue were not without their supporters. Jungle Class relied on her speed early to shake off her opposition but although still in front half-way down the straight, was in trouble as a wall of fillies came at her.
In one of the best finishes seen for many a day at Scottsville, the Millard filly Cerulean Blue got up on the line to short-head Divine Forest with Alpine Silk (SNL) only a neck back third.
Young Lady, in turn, was a short-head away fourth. There was only a length and a half between the winner and Jungle Class in seventh spot. Such was the pace that Cerulean Blue lowered the race record by 0,21 seconds and was only three-tenths off the brilliant New Zealand filly Petrava's track record.
